A concert brimming with inspiration, does school get any better?

After muddling through math and music lessons today and not getting a whole lot else done today.  Oh wait, my 11 year old did come up with a business plan and flyer’s for a dog walking business that he would like to start.  I suppose that is wonderful.  But anyway…… Tonight my dad came and picked my husband, me, and our two oldest kids (boys 11 and 10 years old) to go to a concert and dinner at a  nearby town.  The band was phenomenal and my boys sat in awe as they watched the guitar player’s fingers move about with speed and ease that can only come with years of practice and repetition.  On top of that there was a 12 year old girl who played Chet Atkins style guitar for a few songs in each set.  She is self taught and has only been playing the guitar for about 13 months.  She is astounding.  You can watch her here.  Get this, she homeschools.  I love it.

Not only was this great for the kids to be exposed to music that isn’t normally their choice but it taught them to appreciate it, it also inspires them to see what is possible in 13 months at their age.  The sky is the limit.  Now I am so excited to tell the kids that she is homeschooled as well and they will just be as excited as it gets.

For the parents and children this was the perfect field trip.  A wonderful meal (we actually practed etiquette with the boys which was hard considering they ordered ribs), a great and inspiring show and a wonderful time to have conversation on the drive to and from.  All in all, a perfect evening.  YEAH!  Homeschool and family life success!

    What a great evening!
When my daughter was desperate for us to get her a puppy (sigh!) she put up notices in the local vet that she would be willing to walk dogs for people, and we did get quite a few offers. Mainly from people that worked all day and left their dogs. But she did it for experience and didn’t charge so maybe that helped!!
We succumbed to the puppy idea in the end – it was heaps easier than walking lots of other peoples dogs!
