Vacation and Family August 13, 2008

Yes, I know, weird title.  But the truth is, we went on vacation, had a drug problem (not in our immediate family), and we had a family reunion.

Here’s how it went.  We went to stay with my cousin.  She has a prescription drug problem.  She was out of it the whole time and her house had the cleanliness of a typical druggie.  So, upon arriving I had several hours of cleaning to attend to.  Mainly I had to scrape and kill mold all over the bathrooms just so we could shower the following morning.  Second, I had to come up with a plan for food.  She does not live near anything convenient, her fridge was full of unusable items (how many sauces and spreads does one person need?).

On the vacation end of things we got to see our family which was wonderful.  We played lots of games, had together time in the car and we got to go to the beach.  The beach was a big highlight for the kids and it was the last thing we did before heading home.

So all in all, it was a good vacation.  We have yet to talk about my cousin’s behavior and why she was so incoherent but that will come when I have a private moment with my older children.  I want them to know that those struggles hit close to home and the destruction that comes from it.  I want them to know what made her act like such a dead head.  I want them to know these things in hopes that it will make them not want to take those types of substances into their bodies.  Here’s hoping!
